About Us
Born from passion
The Jolly Easel is a creative events and courses studio based in Stamford, built around one simple idea — that making art together is one of the best things you can do for your soul.

Our Story
Built with heart
The Jolly Easel was born from a deep, personal love of paint pouring — a creative process I fell in love with and simply couldn't keep to myself. I wanted to share that joy, and more than that, I wanted to create a space where people could come together, connect, and feel genuinely good.
With a background in healthcare, I've spent my career caring for others, and that same drive sits at the heart of everything we do here. I know first-hand how much our mental health and sense of belonging matters — and I believe that creativity, laughter, and community are some of the most powerful tools we have.
Every event at The Jolly Easel is designed with that in mind — not just to make beautiful art, but to help people have fun, feel welcome, and leave a little lighter than when they arrived. Whether you're coming alone or with a group, you'll always find a warm, relaxed, and genuinely caring environment waiting for you.

Meet Sarah
The woman behind the easel
I grew up in the beautiful village of Kings Cliffe in Northamptonshire, and I still love this part of the world deeply. There's something about knowing your community — really knowing it — that shapes who you are. I've always been a people person, with a genuine desire to help and connect with those around me.
That caring instinct led me to train as a nurse at King's College London in 2000. I started my career in Intensive Care in London — intense, fast-paced, and incredibly rewarding. After starting a family, I moved into Community Nursing, which brought a different kind of closeness with patients. Years in the NHS have deepened my belief that people's wellbeing — mental and emotional, not just physical — truly matters.
I'm happily settled here with my partner Mark. I have a teenage son who keeps me on my toes, a grown-up daughter, and the most wonderful granddaughter, who I love spending time with. Outside of painting, you'll find me playing the flute, exploring new crafts, or hunting down great food — I'm an unashamed foodie!
A few years ago I discovered paint pouring — and that was it. I fell in love instantly. Something about the flow of colour, the happy accidents, the meditative calm of it all just clicked. I haven't been able to stop since, and now I get to share that joy with you here at The Jolly Easel.

Wellbeing & Creativity
The Art of Relaxation
Creating art isn't just fun — it's genuinely good for you. Studies show that engaging in creative activities like paint pouring can significantly reduce cortisol levels, easing stress and anxiety within minutes of tipping the paint across a canvas.
The focused, flowing nature of fluid art encourages a meditative state — quieting the mind, improving mood, and promoting a sense of calm that can last long after the session ends.
Whether you're looking to unwind after a busy week, reconnect with your creativity, or simply do something joyful — The Jolly Easel is your space to breathe, create, and feel good.
